Dan Miller (IEng MIET)

Dan is a highly experienced Fleet Manager and Rolling Stock Engineer with a proven track record in managing and optimising high-performance fleets, including the Class 68 with Direct Rail Services. He previously served as Systems Engineer for Virgin Trains, focusing on the Class 221 and 390 fleets. Most recently, he was Principal Rolling Stock Consultant at AtkinsRéalis, supporting major fleet transitions and engineering programmes. With expertise spanning fleet strategy, fault diagnostics, safety-related defect management, and ECM compliance, Dan offers deep technical insight and operational leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and high-availability rolling stock performance.

David James (B.Eng.)

David is a skilled Fleet Engineer with extensive experience in rolling stock maintenance and fleet support. He has worked on the Class 68 fleet at Direct Rail Services, providing frontline technical support, fault diagnosis, and performance optimisation. His background includes project and test roles with Transport for Wales and Altran, alongside hands-on maintenance experience with Hitachi Rail and Arriva Rail North. Starting his career in avionics, David combines practical depot knowledge with strong electrical engineering expertise, holding a First-Class Honours degree. He brings reliable, safety-focused engineering leadership to complex fleet operations.

Martin Lees (MIET)

Martin is a versatile and highly skilled Technical Support Engineer with over six years at Direct Rail Services, supporting the Class 68 and 88 fleets. His background spans both rail and aviation, with previous roles at Hitachi Rail, Keolis Amey Metrolink, and Airbus. Martin has deep expertise in diagnostics, electrical systems, and rolling stock fault analysis. He brings hands-on experience working with Stadler, Bordline, and CAT systems, and is adept at producing technical guides, interpreting downloads, and mentoring depot teams.
